What a special treat it was to sail through the natural waterways and canals of Mayakoba while enjoying magnificent toasts and tapas as the sun sets. The “Venice of the Caribbean” as they call it offered a unique and memorable experience while spending time in Riviera Maya, Mexico.

The tapas cruise I enjoyed began at the most beautiful time of day while enjoying a glass of sparkling wine and sumptuous canapes. I was with a group of travel industry friends and while enjoying great conversation we enjoyed narration from our guide about the biology and marine life here on the water between the top luxury Mayakoba properties including the Fairmont, Rosewood and Banyan Tree hotels. I was fortunate to see sea turtles, peninsula birds, stingrays and baby crocodiles, all while floating aboard our 8 passenger luxury boat. I found it fascinating to explorer the underground caves or “cenotes” as they call them which are an absolute wonder and while sailing at night, shining the light underwater and viewing the unique formations of stalagmites and stalactites. The waters are so calm and clear you can see the bottom, even up to 100 feet in depth which is unbelievable

I highly recommend everyone enjoy a cruise in Riviera Maya and venture out on the water to gain a different perspective and see a different part of what Riviera Maya has to offer. Surround yourself with good company, and the Yucatan Peninsula will do the rest, an extraordinary experience by boat is guaranteed.
